In my work I address the Chinese endeavor for modernization and the conflicts that occur when we encounter foreign cultures, tastes, and influences.
I think it is very meaningless if an artist only creates art for art’s sake. For me, the dramatic changes in China have transformed China into a huge playground or construction site… I think it would be absurd for an artist to ignore what's going on in society.
The countless contradictions I see around me and the ever-present crisis of modernization are what determine my photographic work.
Applying documentary photography and parody and satire, I direct some familiar and typical scenes from our history. For me, art evolves from reality.
